Accessible Cape Cod

Wary at first,
Having traveled other times,
Bumped, jostled, often left behind.

Makes one afraid,
Makes one want to cry,
Afraid to venture forth, afraid to try.

But this was different, something new.
A promised land where freedom grew.

Not stopped by steps and stairs
or heavy doors.
Not silenced by ungiving hands
or overlooked once more.

Beckoning its caring arm,
this special strip of land,
Offers new and clever ways
to wheel across the sand.

These Hands

T hese hands can not construct buildings.
H andiwork is a skill lacking too.
E ven though finer arts call them,
S uch glories they can not do.
E ver sworn to silence, a mystery that grew.

H aving these hands teaches tolerance.
A ttitude is adjusted too.
N ow made aware with education.
D elivers one to a sacred place.
S imple hands, a vessel used for grace.
